beholden to the ulterior motives of a sly benefactor
mules eager and willing
readily available
so why buy a tractor?Heed the “Word
of your advisor
there is no need so desperate
that one should sit at the table of a miserThe Lord provides abundantly for His chosen
be not deceived by lies
of despisers
and the frozen

Verbal expulsions belie
obsessive compulsions
denials prolonging trials
an eleven days journey
doesn’t have to take forty years
or cover thousands of miles

Vultures overhead
glide in lazy circles
casting shadows on the sands
overly eager to close in
on the last breaths
of barren hearts
and empty hands
chasing mirages of oases
to the very point of collapse

Mal-nourished by the diminishing crumb offerings of the stingy
and eventually crumbling to dust

Proverbs 23:6-8
6 Do not eat the bread of a miser,
Nor desire his delicacies
;
7 For as he thinks in his heart, so is he.
“Eat and drink!” he says to you
,
But his heart is not with you.
8 The morsel you have eaten, you will vomit up,
And waste your pleasant words.
